Merritt's Farm is less about building something new than recognizing what was already here: water, land and a pond shaped generations ago for a useful purpose.
The pond sits within a tiered lake system fed by the natural flow of Allgood Springs. Its story reaches back roughly a century; the surrounding land carries an agricultural history that reaches further still.
The Allgood and Durham families are part of that local story. We want the farm to acknowledge the people who shaped and worked this landscape in the 1800s and the practical agricultural tradition that followed—not as nostalgia, but as a reminder that this place was made to be useful.
Our work is a modern continuation of that idea: restore the pond, manage the water carefully, raise food responsibly and preserve the quiet beauty that has accumulated around it.

Reclaim an existing stock pond rather than replacing it with an industrial system.
Grow a warm-water crop during Georgia's productive season and harvest when the water cools.
A working pond can still be a place for trees, wildlife, reflection and family life.
